Can You Use a 401(k), IRA or other Retirement Accounts to Invest in Multifamily Real Estate
Investing in Multifamily Real Estate passively has been an extremely popular approach that let’s busy professionals tap into investing in Real Estate without having to manage the deal themselves or come up with the money to purchase the whole property on their own.
One question that is often asked is if an individual can use their 401(k), IRA, or other retirement accounts and take more control of their money to invest in Real Estate rather than the stock market. Many investors dislike the extreme volatility that is sometimes accompanied with investing in the Stock Market and prefer to have more control.
The answer to that is yes, you can invest in Real Estate through a retirement account.
The way it’s done is extremely simple. You have to go through a third-party company that can act as a mediator between you and the investment. There are many companies we have evaluated and worked with in the past to help our investors invest in our Multifamily syndications that we have put out. One of our favorites is called “Quest IRA”, which has worked with multiple of our investors and helped them place investments into Real Estate.
The way it works is once you identify a deal you want to invest in, you would then reach out to the third-party facilitator to let them know and start facilitating the process. They would then have you fill out required paperwork, and wire the instructed funds to the eligible investment that you choose to invest in. The process could take anywhere from 7 to 14 days, so it’s always important to notify the sponsor you’re investing with that it will take some time for the process to be completed.
